How I pass the winter

I had gotten exceeding
bored when the temps
dropped exceedingly low.
So, I made curtains that
bring a summery feel to
the kitchen after I painted
the cabinets a bright white
to chase away the winters'
dim light.



Then on the back door
and lower cabinets I
painted an aquamarine
base, then white over
that and sanded through
for a bit of distressing.

All I need is a little sand
on the floor and I'll feel
like back home in our old
beach house in Michigan.

Updates

I have been really busy lately what with procrastinator parties and kids and all that jazz. I do want to thank everyone who commented on my chairs. I had fun doing it under the time crunch and will most definitely do another project party again.
Once I got the dining room finished I turned my eye toward the back porch/office this weekend, and threw out the door all the junk that was cluttering it up so horribly. I am one of those people that will clean my bedroom in the middle of the night if I can't sleep because of the clutter. So out it all went! One pile for garage, one for the yard sale this Friday, oh, did I mention that while I was doing this de-cluttering I thought that it would be a great time for a yard sale? So now I am into it for the duration.
Jay even took out the old built in work space that was out moded for us. At the time he built it we had 2 desk top pc's and now we are using laptops, so out with that, too! I cleaned the carpet and brought in my new love seat and my old handmade desk, a reading lamp and table that I repainted white, hung curtains and made a tiny little space just for me! I picture myself early mornings, curled up on my cozy love seat with a cup of coffee in one hand and my online devotions on my laptop on the table next to me. Ah, it's the little things that make us happy, yes?

Also, I stopped babysitting. I need to concentrate on what I need to be doing here. Like exercising regularly.

Jay and I will be taking a mini-vacation the last 4 days of this month. We are going to Nevada to see a dear old friend for a couple of days, by ourselves, no children added. We really need this!

My garden is growing, albeit slowly, but it is past the danger of being frozen. There is some small bit of pride in that I started it from seeds, every bit! We also planted a june berry bush and a honeysuckle vine and they are thriving as well. Our grapevine looks very sweet with its blush colored leaves just beginning to unfurl. I always tell people that in our yard all we have to do is dig a hole and plop whatever it is we want to grow and it will take off on it's own. Which reminds me, it's dark now and I can flood my yard and garden unobserved.

One more thing: I am reading Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott; Thin Within -a Grace oriented approach to weight loss- by Judy and Arthur Halliday RN & MD respectively; and Chuck Colson's How Now Shall We Live?. One meaty book let me tell you. I read fiction at night to help me go to sleep and if I wake up and can't sleep I can think about what I just read and if that doesn't seem to work then I will pray. That usually does it pretty fast for some reason.

Late for a Procrastinator's Party!?

Here they are, completed a week ago! I had 2 wild little babies yesterday and didn't get a chance to post! We also painted the dining room as well a great color! It really makes the white chairs stand out. It made the whole room look so light and airy.
It took me 4 days to sand, paint, sand and paint and then I did some slight distressing on them. My husband, the expert, was impressed!

Procrastinator's Party

If you have a project that needs to be finished then this may be just the encouragement you need. Melissa, over at http://theinspiredroom.net/ is having a party that challenges us to finishing one of those long put off projects that keep calling us to complete them. I just happen to have 6 Napoleon dining chairs that I have been wanting to paint and now I have no more excuses!

AH! New project

I am considering painting this with a nice white wash. Now I don't know if Jay will let me since he made and finished all this but I can ask. There is a matching table on the other side and a matching dresser. The room is a light cappuchino color with white trim. I have a white battenburg duvet that I use in the summer. This is our heavy winter stuff and it has been a long winter. Ready to move onto Spring!

Projects to finish. Eventually...

I have two old arm chairs; one of which I saw out at someone's trash and loved the lines
and apparently so did my husband for he came home from work with it in the back of his truck. That frame Jay has refinished and he has the other chair taken apart to clean and refinish. I have been looking for the right material to re-upholster them.

In the dining room I use a vintage Mayline drafting
table as our dining table with 6 Napolean chairs,
2 on each side and 2 extras on either side of the handmade hutch from BSW, the custom furniture shop my husband worked as finish dept. supervisor for 13+ years.
The chairs are going to be painted white with rubbed edges. I am painting the base of the table as well but not white but maybe some whitewash antiquing. I'm not looking forward to the tedious job of chair painting but I know the end result will be fantastic. And I have the benefit of having a brilliant finish specialist for a husband to help me because he loves doing this! I better get busy...sometimes I feel as if I will never get it finished.
